THE VIRGIN AND CHILD WITH ST. ANNE AND THE YOUNG ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST NOTE: To avoid confusion with "Virgin of the Rocks", I've used the title: ST. ANNE... for my photo album. None of the images have been altered other than by means of basic lighting, contrasting, cropped, etc., I've used a white out or black out effect to draw viewers attention to some specific images. THE LAST SUPPER

FOURTH: #4 THE LAST SUPPER Negative, reverse image, upside down, all color removed and lighting enhanced BY LJ. It looks as though you're on the outside of the windows that appear behind "The Last Supper", in a courtyard with a well to the left... Give it time, walk away from your computer, view it from a distance...you'll see it. And this is only the beginning...

VITRUVIAN MAN

  • V_man_2_eye
VITRUVIAN MAN: LEONARDO DA VINCI Is it so hard to visualize the spread legs forming the shape of a compass and that both sets of feet are drawn to form a right angle, yet it almost seems too simple to suggest this was intentionally done by LEONARDO to represent the MASONIC symbol of the compass and square... Then again I find it extremely interesting to speculate if indeed it was done intentionally!

The da Vinci Illusion: Revealing Hidden Images

Leonardo_da_vinci_self_portrait *SELF PORTRAIT:  Leonardo da Vinci

Self_portrait_sm Black and white image.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_crp3Cropped section with lighting enhanced.  If you sit back and stare at this section of the sketch, what all do you see?  Do you see the right profile of a face?  Left profile of a face?  A partial face with large lips?

Port_of_old_man_crp_c_right_prf_ol Right profile of face outlined.

Port_of_old_man_crp_c_left_prf_ol_2 Left profile of face outlined.

Port_of_old_man_crp_c_face_big_lips Partial face with large lips outlined.

Port_old_man_crp_darkLarger view shown darker.  The longer I stare at this the more faces I see!

Self_portrait_smThe hidden images are everywhere once you know how to look for them.

Port_old_man_right_prof_olRight profile outlined.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_full_view_bw

With lighting enhanced.  Can you find more hidden images? Hint: The longer you stare at this sketch you'll notice that faint background images begin to grow darker and more distinct revealing hidden images not seen otherwise.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_full_view__3Small bearded face outlined.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_4th_face_olSmiling face.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_face_5_olAnother face outlined with the mouth on the left side.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_full_face__2 Face looking to the right outlined.  Are you seeing them?  You should also begin seeing distinct letters and numbers.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_full_r_olWhat has become known on my site as the "infamous letter R" (hidden within so many of da Vinci's works) outlined.

The hidden faces, numbers and letters are too numerous to even begin to try and outline.  It is also difficult to try and outline ALL the images because they form and fade from one faint image into another to another and so on.  Also, when you think you've found all the hidden images possible try coming back later and you'll be amazed at the number of new images you hadn't noticed before.

Then change your viewing angle...

Portrait_of_an_old_man_usd_crp_2_2Upside down, cropped section with lighting darkened to hopefully enable you to see the hidden images much faster and easier.  Again for those of you short on time and patience I've outlined a few below.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_usd_crp_2_beA bearded face.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_usd_crp_2_faAnother face.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_usd_crp_2_leLeft profile.

Portrait_of_an_old_man_usd_crp_2_daWith lighting darker I see even more images.  How many more hidden images can you find?

*This sketch is also known as "Portrait of an Old Man" due to questions as to it actually being a self portrait of Leonardo da Vinci.

La Jan, as always you show great perception. I learn something new whenever I visit your site!

I used to look for faces in a fire, many ones I remember seeing! I never thought though, to look for hidden images in artistic portraits. Until now, that is ;)

Take care, and I look forward to your next update.

I think your website is great! Wouldn't it be fantastic if some of Leonardo's other paintings/drawings were to be found. I hope they were not all destroyed, and someone, somewhere uncovers them.

Regards,
Graham.
