WHY IS MONA LISA SMILING? BECAUSE SHE'S NOT ALONE IN THAT PAINTING!
MONA LISA: Leonardo da Vinci Louvre-Paris
Throughout my blogs on the hidden images found within the art work of LEONARDO DA VINCI, I've stated that modern technology, i.e. lighting, contrasting, etc., is not necessary to see these amazing hidden images! However, in an effort to better enable skeptics a helping hand in experiencing what I refer to as the "Hologram Effect" I have utilized such technology to assist you in seeing all that I am seeing.
Notice the area outlined and seen up close in the next image.
With slight lighting enhancements I begin to see distinct images taking shape. Do you?
Of all the amazing discoveries I've made of countless hidden images and various illusions skillfully mastered by Leonardo da Vinci, this is by far the most difficult to try and capture exactly what I'm seeing. However, in my continuing quest to convince the world that MONA LISA is not alone in this painting allow me to first point out the seemingly endless number of eyes I have found on almost every square inch of this painting!
Cropped section of the head with lighting enhanced. Keep staring there are several eyes.
Close up of nose. Stare intently dead center.
Right click image for larger view. Now how many eyes do you see?
I've made lighting enhancements to most of these images. If you're not seeing anything try adjusting your monitor's contrast and bright settings.
Try sitting back and view from a bit of a distance.
Notice the many images in her hair!
There are several very distinct images of eyes in this section. RIGHT CLICK IMAGES FOR LARGER VIEWS.
Shown close up with lighting enhanced, in the following cropped section of the neck, the longer I stare at this the more eyes I see!
There are many, many eyes here. Just give it time! The longer you stare at this cropped section located on the neck of Mona Lisa, the more eyes you'll see!! Sit back. Try tilting your head to one side then to the other side. Come back to this later and try it again, and you'll see eyes you hadn't seen before!
A closer look without lighting enhancement.

Eye on forehead. Tilt your head from one side to the other and more eyes appear.
Click for larger view and see how many eyes you can find.
Shown close up with slight contrasting.
RIGHT CLICK IMAGE FOR LARGER VIEW.
Cropped section, rotated with lighting enhanced. Concentrate on the background and the eyes will begin to appear!
Give it time. In addition to the many different eyes, do you also see the formation of numbers and letters?
Seen close up the one larger eye seems to disappear, but if you look long enough you'll see many more eyes!
More cropped sections. More eyes, just sit back and give it time.
Give it time... There are several eyes!
The longer you look the more eyes you'll see.
Try closing your eyes for a moment, you need a rest. The longer I look the more I see.
Blink, rest your eyes.
Give it time, let your eyes adjust with each new image.
These are only a few examples! Now it's just a matter of connecting all these eyes with the hidden images surrounding them! However, when I tell you that the images surrounding all of these eyes just happens to be mostly of Gorillas and Snakes... Of course you're going to laugh! Believe me I haven't been able to stop laughing since I first realized what I was seeing. And seeing them best with the naked eye, using art books, flipping them around from all angles, tilting them back and forth just as you would any basic flip-flop hologram; using and observing the play of light to try and glimpse all of these hidden images. Capturing exactly what I see has not been easy, but I'm sure trying!
With the help of a few friends who, I've discussed previously had been planning an intervention on my behalf, I discovered that the use of a mirror placed at a right angle to their computer screens enabled them to finally catch a glimpse of what I'm seeing. And let's face it, if you've ever read or even heard much at all about DA VINCI, you know he had a thing about mirrors. I would also discover that the use of a laptop's computer screen captures the "hologram effect" beautifully with many of DA VINCI'S illusions, so if you're using a laptop try moving your screen up and down, side to side as you would any basic flip-flop hologram.
As to the exact angle and distance you place a mirror to the left or right side of your computer screen, of course has a lot to do with the condition of your own personal vision. You're going to have to experiement as to what works best for you. But again let me stress that it is more of a right angle that captures this amazing illusion, NOT just reversing the image as if you were holding it up in front of a mirror, which frankly does give you some interesting results. But for so many of the illusions I am desperately trying to help you see throughout my site, IT'S FROM A SIDE ANGLE! And I'm sorry, but as you've no doubt notice throughout my site, I've tried all sorts of things desperately trying to enable you to see all that I'm seeing and if you still are not grasping what I'm talking about, I'M BEGGING YOU TO TRY A MIRROR PLACED AT A BIT OF A RIGHT ANGLE TO YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN!!
I'm sorry, didn't mean to scream! It's just that I am so desperate to share this amazing discovery with the world. Below are many examples of many different hidden images I've tried to capture for you. Please, just give it a try.
Upside down, cropped section. In addition to a few eyes... Do you see the snakes?
Here's one outlined in green, but keep looking there are more! Again, you may have to adjust your monitor's settings if you just don't see anything. And of course, Time and Patience!
Profile of face. This can be seen clearly from most copies of the painting.
Rotated with lighting enhanced.
Head of snake, which looks like it's devouring her arm!
The longer I stare the more I see.
Do you see the number 5? This is a reverse image, but a backwards number 5 can be seen clearly in most photos of the painting. It's located to the left of Mona Lisa just at the base of the tree line.
Cropped section, rotated from the trees to the right. Two profiles of faces separated by the green line in the image below:
Gorilla shown close up. This was the first and most obvious image of a gorilla I noticed and can usually be seen clearly with the naked eye, though slight lighting enhancement has been used here.
Same gorilla shown in reverse image with color removed. The longer I stare at this the more images I begin to see. Profile of a snarling animal and an arrow?
Viewed in the right light the image outlined has the illusion of a face. Keep the "hologram effect" in mind. Depending on lighting and/or the angle you view this painting from new images become more and more distinct.
Using lighting enhancement only this upside down section looks like a smiling gorilla!
Another cropped section with only lighting enhanced. Look closely at the image. Right click for larger view. Notice the clear image of teeth, lower left side. The markings in yellow on the sleeve appear as a bunch of bananas viewed from a distance. This is an unmistakable image! Also, notice several other eyes in this section.
Gorilla with a bunch of bananas outlined. Of course, with the naked eye I don't see the colors you're seeing as a result of lighting enhancements. But it's the only way I've found so far, to try and give you a glimpse of what all I'm seeing.
Color enhanced. With each adjustment other images appear, just as when I tilt a copy of the Mona Lisa in my hands, new images come into focus.
Seen darker the nose appears clearer then just to the right another nose and eye appear.
Tilt your head to the left. Do you see the many images in her hair?
Remember the tremendous amount of damage and restoration this painting has endured and yet the hologram effect has endured! If you look closely, you can make out several profile images of gorillas.
As with any basic flip-flop hologram, it's impossible to get all the images to appear at one time.
Lighting enhanced. Notice on her right shoulder what appears to look like an arrow pointing towards her face. And if you'll just give it time more and more images begin to appear!
From a distance and at different angles I see more and more images, most seem to be faces of gorillas!
Reverse image rotated with lighting enhanced.
Closer view. Larger images should be viewed from a distance and different angles. Try placing a mirror to the side of your computer screen to add distance and angles!
Every angle reveals more images.
Once you clearly see the face of a gorilla suddenly come into focus... It's just too incredible to believe!
These should be viewed from a distance and from different angles.
Trying to capture exactly what all I see isn't easy.
Images seem to be hidden everywhere. Try viewing from a distance and different angles.
With bump map imaging. Notice the area in her hair.
Close up with lighting. Look carefully, there are several small faces of apes in her hair!
Bump map imaging with color enhanced. See the images in her hair?
Cropped sections using bump map imaging. Right click for larger views.
No wonder she smiling! As if saying, "Take your eyes off of me for just a second and notice what's all around me!" Or, "I've got a secret and it's staring you right in the face!" "I'M NOT ALONE!" And if you listen you can almost swear you hear LEONARDO laughing as if to say, "What took you so long to see what has been right in front of you?" And hopefully you'll begin to understand why I say, "She's smiling because SHE'S NOT ALONE!"
Many images from archives and photo albums.
