BATTLE OF MARCIANO IN THE CHIANA VALLEY: GIORGIO VASARI 1511-1574 Click on image for larger view, but try looking at it from a distance, actually standing up and giving it some distance and different viewing angles. And take a moment to stare at the smaller view as well. You might also try setting a mirror to the side of your computer screen to allow distance and different viewing angles in order to glimpse the amazing optical illusion hiding in this fresco as described * below.
Art researcher, Maurizio Seracini discovered a cryptic message painted on the fresco 30 years ago. "Cerca Trova" painted on the flag which means: Seek and you shall find.
* The first time I saw an image of this fresco it was the same size you see when you click on the image for a larger view. I was immediately struck by the amazing 3D quality of the many different images I saw appearing all over it. As well as the vast number of letters covering this fresco, there appears to be a partial image of a large gray body lying along the base of the hills, faces mingled among the hillside, as well as images of snakes! And what seems to look a lot like a... Dare I say, "silver chalice!" (Shown below.) Viewing the larger image from different angles and distances I began seeing the most incredible images of large faces beginning to appear in all shapes and sizes all over this fresco! It is truly an amazing illusion! It may take some time and practice for you to see all that I'm seeing, but it is well worth the time and effort!
Close up of what looks very much like a silver chalice.
Reversed image of the fresco. Take a moment to stare intently, from a distance and slowly you'll begin to notice hidden images coming into focus; numbers, letters and faces!
A small cropped section, seen up close, do you see what looks like distinct letters? Snakes? Click on image for larger view, but allow yourself plenty of viewing distance!
This is truly an amazing work of art! Of course I learned some time ago that when it comes to hidden images or optical illusions found within works of art, never assume you've seen it all! So, utilizing the many different viewing tips I've suggested to you, I immediately discovered and experienced the same amazing optical illusion that you are hopefully seeing now!
A search of my archives and photo albums and you'll find an examination of many different artist's and their different styles and creative methods of hiding images, letters, numbers, symbols, etc., all over their works of art! (Another reason behind the name of my site!) But the reniassance artist's seemed to be totally consume with creating more elaborate and ingenious methods of hiding distinct items in their work! Why? Were they merely amusing themselves? Could it simply have been a private joke shared among a select group? Or is there indeed a meaning, a message, a secret that has been waiting over 500 years to be discovered?
If you search the inter net regarding this fresco you will invariably find countless news articles on the hunt for the long lost LEONARDO DA VINCI "Battle of Anghian." Which is believed to be hidden behind this GIORGIO VASARI fresco "Battle of Marciano in the Chiana Valley."
BATTLE OF ANGHIAN: LEONARDO DA VINCI
Though DA VINCI and VASARI'S optical illusion styles differ tremendously, they nonetheless both have incredible illusions and an amazing number of hidden images! In DA VINCI'S, "Battle of Anghian" I noticed the longer I stared at it I began to see a familiar illusion taking place as very distinct images of animal heads began to emerge everywhere! Click on image for larger view, allow yourself plenty of distance and simply forget what your suppose to see and look for images of large animal heads!
Face, of just one of the many animal illusions hidden within this work of art, is outlined here.
With lighting enhanced. With either, the small or larger image, just pick any one spot and keep staring intently at it. Slowly you'll begin to notice more and more images coming into focus! Even if you stare into the empty background long enough, you'll start seeing images becoming darker and clearer that seem to emerge from nowhere!
Rotated view, slight lighting. Viewed from a far enoungh distance, staring intently, you should begin to see a wide variety of faces; animal and human! This illusion may require more of your time and patience, but if you can glimpse just one of these faces, you'll understand exactly what I'm talking about! And slowly you should start seeing more and more!
Another angle with color enhanced. Faces of all shapes and sizes begin to take shape the longer you stare at this!
Upside down lighting enhanced. Do you see two large eyes staring at you?
If you find you're still having trouble seeing the hidden images, try setting a mirror to the left or right of your computer screen to see from different angles. Anyone who's ever read a thing about LEONARDO DA VINCI, knows he had a major thing about mirrors!
Giorgio Vasari has one of the more dramatic styles of optical illusions that I've seen so far! Following are more examples of GIORGIO VASARI works of art. Please take just a moment to stare intently and try some of the viewing suggestions given above to witness the amazing optical illusions hidden within these works of art. With the next example I see numbers immediately, then I begin to see large caricature faces. Can you find them?
Remember to try different angles and distances! If you can see what the painting is, YOU'RE TOO CLOSE! In fact, it may very well be our natural instinct to get as close to these master pieces as possible in order to see the fine details that has actually kept all of these incredible illusions an elusive secret for so long! The vast number of hidden images within this painting have a caricature quality to them as well as the 3D quality I described above. Also, distinct images of numbers and letters can be found all over this painting.
One of my favorite hidden image is outlined below:
Upside down reverse view. Notice the area outlined in green, do you see the large face of what looks like a frightened woman?
The use of a mirror, as decribed above, may really help you see these incredible illusions much faster and easier.
THE DEFEAT OF PISANS AT THE TOWER OF SAN VINCENZO, from The Salone Dei Cinquecento.
Once again I see snakes, faces and letters! Click on images for larger views, but again give yourself some distance.
Upside down view with just a touch of lighting enhancement. Do you see any snakes?
Rotated. If you'll give this one some time using the suggested viewing tips, I guarantee you won't be sorry!
Another view. If you're using a lap top computer, try moving the screen around just as you would a typical flip-flop hologram.
If you are not absolutely amazed at what you are seeing; you're NOT seeing what I'm seeing!
Stare intently and you should begin to see a large number of hidden faces all shapes and sizes.
Upside down view. No matter how you view this one there seems to be no end to the hidden images that begin to emerge!
This may prove a bit more difficult until you grasp the nature of the illusion. I first see the letter "S" which is the angel's wing. Then I begin to see large cartoon type faces; human and animal. An interesting illusion, if you tilt your head to the right, notice the head of the angel and the wing turn into a very distinct number "3".
Rotated view with slight lighting enhancement.
Outlined in green what appears to be a long neck bird.
Image of a long neck bird shown close up. Can you find the many other hidden cartoon images hidden within this painting?
Upside down view.
Reversed with slight lighting enhancement. You'll find that each and everytime you come back and look at any of the illusions on this site, you'll see new images you can't believe you missed the first time. I cannot begin to stress the simple need for time and patience. Once you grasp the different illusions there'll be no denying what you are seeing and that these are not mere flukes or common anomalies!
CLEMENT IV DELIVERING ARMS TO THE LEADERS OF GUELPH PARTY:
From any and all angles I see a wide range of cartoon style animal faces.
Outlined in green this image appears to be wearing a large red cap. Don't dismiss the value of these smaller images, as I mentioned earlier, this could very well be how all these amazing illusions have gone unnoticed for centuries!
Rotated view with slight lighting. Give the larger images some distance and hopefully you'll see many animal faces begin to emerge.
If you've enough patience, there is an incredibly unique illusion within this painting.
Upside down reversed view with lighting enhanced.
THE CASTRATION OF URAMUS: Fresco by GIORGIO VASARI and CRISTOFANO GERARDI-Palazzo Vecchio
Rotated view. This may seem too simple, but keep looking there are many more hidden images!
I've found similar optical illusions on all of GIORGIO VASARI'S works art that I've seen so far! Seems LEONARDO DA VINCI and many of his fellow artists were all in on this secret. That or there was an incredible mass phenomena of synchronicity occurring here!
